June is the national month for foods such as Dairy, Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, and Seafood. This month we'll be looking forward to a bunch of national food days including: National Egg Day (3rd), National Cheese Day (4th), National Donut Day (3rd) and National Lobster Day (15th), as well as National Herbs and Spices Day on June 10th. So, what better time than now to highlight all herbs and spices as the .........

THE SPICE OF LIFE - All Herbs and Spices

Like tomatoes with basil, meat with salt and pepper, and cakes and pies with flavor extracts, some foods, spices and herbs just go well together; they have an affinity with each other.

The most novice of bakers knows to flavor an apple pie with cinnamon, or a pound cake with vanilla or lemon extract.

However, the real fun begins with trying something new, or different. You may not want to experiment with guests at your dinner table. But, when you can, go ahead and … Step out of your normal routine. Awaken your palate. Try different herbs or spices in your favorite dishes. You’ll be surprised by all the delicious flavors you and your family have been missing all this time.

Here are a few herbs and spices for several common foods like chicken. Below are suggestions for this month’s highlighted foods.

Eggs (National Egg Day - June 3rd)
